Now That’s What You Call A Wedding Cake!
When we received a call from a wedding cake designer in London we were more than happy to help her with flowers for a wedding cake.
But this was not just any old wedding cake. It was a replica of Prince Andrew’s and Sarah Ferguson’s wedding cake which had eight tiers with the largest being around 30 inches in diameter.
Abi from Abigail Bloom Cakes had baked and decorated the cake beautifully with royal icing. She and her colleague transported the cake from London to Castle Howard where they started to assemble it together. This got more difficult with each tier as they climbed on ladders and carefully assembled it together which took them all afternoon.
Whilst they did this Fiona and I wired hundreds of tiny flower heads together. These included rose buds, jasmine and hyacinths.
When Abi came to tell us she was ready for the flowers it was Fiona who bravely climbed the ladder and fixed the silver chalice to the top tier and then started to arrange the flowers onto the cake. We had to be so careful as the cake moved ever so slightly each time we assembled the flowers onto it. We were so glad when it was all finished.
Abi was thrilled with the finished result as was the Bride’s brother who had commissioned Abi to make the cake.
