For the second time last week we were back doing flowers at Middlethorpe Hall, York but this occasion was a party, not a wedding.
We had not met the lady who had organised the party beforehand, all the arrangements had been done via email with descriptions and images of what she would like.
The tables had a silver candleabra in the centre and we made small arrangements in silver containers and sat three of these around the candleabra. Colourwise - all shades of warm reds and oranges - flowers included pin cushion protea, calla lilies and roses.

Peaches and creams were the colours that Jen had chosen for her wedding flowers at The Black Swan, Helmsley.
We have really enjoyed working with laid back Jen and her lovely Mum who popped in to see us on the day before Jen's wedding, just to see her bouquet. We had made an all-round hand tied posy for Jen to carry, made with peach and cream flowers including gerbera, wax flower, mint, eucalyptus and roses. They absolutely loved it.
Next day we delivered all the bridal flowers to Jen who was staying in Helmsley and then went to the Black Swan to deliver the table decorations which were simply a glass vase containing a mixture of peach and cream flowers - very tasteful.
Jen's Nan had baked a fruit cake which made up one of the tiers of the wedding cake and one of Jen's relations had made the other tiers and was assembling the cake together when we arrived at the hotel. We filled in between the tiers with a mixture of flowers and sat a few roses on the top. It looked really good.

Have just returned from a very hectic few days at Living North Essence of Christmas Show at Newcastle Racecourse. It was a real success for us and we had sold out of most things by the second day. As usual our "Ethelanna Bunnies and Meeces" were a huge success - many previous years customers returning to buy more to add to their growing collections but also many customers falling in love with them for the first time. Our fabulous Christmas trees and "Magic Snow" also proved very popular.
We will be exhibiting closer to home at The Living North Essence of Christmas Fair at York Racecourse for three days commencing 16th November. We would love to see you all there where we will have lots of new stock including more "Ethelanna Bunnies and Meeces." We still have a few tickets for free admission- just get in touch if you would like some.
Thought you might like to see this lovely email which Ethelanna received yesteday....

"Hello Ethelanna,

I thought I would just drop you a quick e-mail to let you know I have just been to the living north fair at Gosforth race course and have just collected my family of bunnies and meeces- all 6 I love them – they have been strategically placed around my house until Christmas and they will take pride of place on the Christmas tree…………..

Thank you for your hard work and keep it up as every house needs meeces and rabbits!- I will look forward to seeing your next collection at the next event.

Kindest regards and your biggest fan!"

A few weeks ago we received an email from bride-to-be Lisa, from London, who sent us an image of a bouquet that she had seen in a magazine and wanted exactly the same for her wedding. She told us that all the florists she had contacted had no idea what the flower was but somehow she managed to find us on the internet and the mystery flower was indeed a fabulous King Protea.
Lisa was so thrilled and a couple of days before her wedding we packaged up three King Proteas, simply bound with raffia and sent them off with a courier to be delivered next day to Lisa.

Hayley had chosen warm autumnal colours for her bridal flowers which included mango calla lilies and cherry brandy roses. She was having her ceremony and reception at The Hospitium, York where we decorated the pillars with our battery operated fairy lights, sat an arrangement on the ceremony table and filled jam jars with matching flowers that sat on the floor by the pillars.
Upstairs we placed an arrangement on each table. Hayley had showed us an image of what she wanted and these were a moss ball on a stick coming out of the centre of a plant which was wrapped in moss tied with raffia.

Fiona and Miranda will be exhibiting at the Living North, Essence of Christmas Show this week at Newcastle Racecourse. The show starts on Thursday through to Sunday.
We did this show last year and had a great time. Fiona will be doing a flower demonstration once each day. We will have lots for sale including Christams Trees, Wreaths, Christmas Gifts and Decorations, Candles and our loveable "Ethelanna Bunnies and Meeces."
This show is well worth a visit. Only an hour away from York by train and we have some free tickets for entry into the show.
Don't worry if you think it's too far to travel - Living North will be having their first show at York Racecourse in a few weeks time and we will be there too. We also have limited free entry tickets so let us know if you are interested.

Back at the beautiful Hospitium, York for Lisa's wedding last Saturday.
We delivered all the bridal flowers to Marmadukes Hotel where Lisa and her bridesmaids were getting ready for her wedding - they had all had their hair and make-up done and looked really glamorous.
Lisa had a trailing bouquet made from flowers including Norma Jean and Black Baccara roses and Singapore orchids and the bridesmaids carried matching all round hand-tied posies.
At The Hospitium the pillars had lights, foliage and a few flowers in and our battery candles were dotted around the ceremony room.
Upstairs our elegant candelabras sat on each guest table and the top table was dressed with foliage and flowers.

Last Thursday we were already preparing for weddings that had been booked with us for months when we received a call from Catherine at Grays Court asking if there was any way that we could possibly help one of her bride's who was getting married on Sunday. Well, with only three days to go and after being let down by her original florist, how could we not offer to help Emma, who a few hours later was sitting smiling, in our studio, discussing what she wanted for her wedding day.
We quickly ordered all the flowers which arrived from Holland on Saturday morning. Emma's bouquet was made from hydrangea, Faith roses and berries tied with lace ribbon - her five bridesmaids carried smaller version, omitting the berries.

The table flowers for Grays Court looked great. We used different sizes of hurricane vases, each surrounded by a ring of flowers which included hydrangea, massive Secret Garden roses, Amnesia roses, pods, berries, thistles, mint and foliages.

The end result was one very happy bride!
Look out for images from the very talented Dominic Wright photographer.

On Sunday you would find us at The Hospitium Wedding Fair. It was good to meet future brides and grooms and chat with them. It was a really busy day and it was impossible to speak to everyone so apologies if you were waiting around for a chat. You can always give us a call or email us and we can discuss your ideas or make an appointment to meet.

Last weekend we were preparing Victoria's wedding flowers at Middlethorpe Hall, York. Middlethorpe Hall, York is another of our favourite venues and the staff are lovely and very helpful.
Victoria had chosen muted, antique shades of dusky pinks and creams and her flowers included the wonderful scented Norma Jean rose and massive headed Secret Garden rose. She chose to carry a small hand-tied posy fastened with a buckle. Victoria's job involves buying handbags so she chose to have us make handbags for her bridesmaids to carry which we made from bark and flowers, dressed with ribbon and a vintage button. Victoria and her bridesmaids absolutely loved these and they matched the bridesmaids dresses perfectly.
It was nice to be able to use a real candle in the table decorations. These sat in a hurricane vase which was surrounded by a ring of flowers and we thought it looked really good but it was lovely to receive a call from Victoria's Mum on Monday morning, just calling to thank us for what we had done, they loved everything.
It was nice to meet an old friend at Middlethorpe Hall, Sarah from Sugar Monkey had made the cake. It looked absolutely fantastic, we sat flowers on the top and sprinkled rose petals around the base.
